An Intentional Baltimore Elopement Rooted in South Asian Wedding Tradition

Anjalee and Courtney built a day around things that mattered to them. By combining a courthouse elopement ceremony with South Asian wedding traditions, family, and time for portraits in meaningful locations, they got to have it all.

You get to define what your wedding day looks like, and leave what doesn’t fit behind.

Starting Their Day at Home

Instead of a rushed morning following a tight timeline and separate hotel rooms, Anjalee and Courtney got ready together in their home, sipping champagne with their two closest friends (and their very good girl, Lily-dog).

They both wore tailored suits, and their hands were adorned with intricate bridal mehndi, a traditional South Asian wedding custom, looking absolutely gorgeous!

Elopement Portraits Around Baltimore

Before heading to the courthouse, we stopped at a few places that have meant a lot to them over the years. We started at Rawlings Conservatory, where they’ve shared so many day dates, and Mount Vernon, where they spent a lot of time getting to know each other. They wanted to have the opportunity to reminisce about the time they’ve shared together while celebrating the start of their new chapter, which was such a special idea!

Baltimore Courthouse Elopement Ceremony & Honoring South Asian Wedding Traditions

They were legally married at the Baltimore County Courthouse in Towson, surrounded by the people who mean the most.

Outside the courthouse, Anjalee’s grandparents led a heartfelt Hindu puja to honor South Asian wedding traditions. Puja is a spiritual ritual that included floral garland exchanges (jai malas), the application of vermillion to Courtney’s hair part, and the tying of mangalsutras (gold and black necklaces that signify commitment in South Asian culture). It was an honor to be there and witness these moments!

A Toast in Mount Vernon

After the ceremony and a few moments with the family, we headed to a local rooftop to enjoy a quick champagne toast and tequila shots with their best friends.

Later, the celebration continued with a cozy reception at The Brewer’s Art in Mount Vernon. This part of the day was casual and full of love. Surrounded by a small circle of family and friends, Anjalee and Courtney toasted to their marriage and soaked up the joy of being celebrated by the people who know them best.
