When you imagine a garden elopement, what comes to mind? Maybe it’s a quiet path through blooming flowers, sunlight dancing through ivy-covered trees, or the kind of atmosphere that makes you forget you’re in the middle of the city. That’s exactly the kind of day Lizi and Julian planned for their Washington, DC, elopement.
As Lizi described it, “I want a relaxed and intimate day. I’m a nature lover and a hopeless romantic, so I imagine a day spent in picturesque secret gardens, laughing and snuggling up next to my guy.”
That’s exactly how it felt.
Lizi is a talented floral hobbyist (she’s even done wedding florals for friends before), so it’s no surprise that blooms were at the heart of this day. She ordered flowers from a local DC florist and did all the arrangements herself.
Her bouquet was beautiful and a little whimsical, just like her embroidered veil, which trailed behind her like a work of art.
DC might be known for its monuments and museums, but tucked between the history are hidden gems that make for breathtaking garden elopement locations. They started the day at The Line Hotel, a modern boutique hotel in Adams Morgan with stunning architecture and light-filled rooms.
Their ceremony at the Spanish Steps felt like a European-inspired fairytale, with ivy-covered staircases and cobblestone paths. The Spanish Steps are an underrated elopement location in DC, tucked away from the busier streets nearby.

Finally, we headed to the gardens of the National Cathedral, where Gothic architecture met lush greenery and late summer blooms. The Cathedral and gardens made for a dreamy, fairytale-esque backdrop for their photos.
After portraits in the garden, the two of them cozied up for a private luxury picnic. Their picnic setup was beautiful, especially with the historic brick walls surrounding them! There, they popped champagne, shared a stunning pressed-flower cake, and read letters from loved ones.
If you’re drawn to the idea of a quiet, romantic celebration surrounded by greenery, DC has some incredible spots for a garden elopement. From European-style steps to hidden cathedral gardens, there are so many intimate locations here that offer both natural beauty and city charm.
And if you’re planning to elope in Washington, DC, I’d love to help you bring that vision to life. Reach out here and let’s create something meaningful together.
THIS is the photographer you want to capture your special day! Bekah not only takes the most beautiful photos, but she also made us feel so comfortable and at ease. We’re big awkward goobers, but you’d never know by looking at our photos! She is so down to earth and incredibly kind and caring. What an absolute gem of a human being and photographer! We could not have asked for a better experience. 🤍
